Presentation Description:
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans is updated every 5 years by a joint committee made up of staff from the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Agriculture along with some others providing input from outside the government. The focus of the guidelines has always been to offer recommendations for nutrients and foods to meet the individual nutritional needs of Americans of different age groups or stages of life. With today’s challenges of a growing population, growing economic inequities, growing environmental degradation, and the changing climate, there is an urgent need for adding the more all-encompassing perspective of public health to the next Dietary Guidelines. This webinar is a call to action to encourage public health professionals to become involved in this all-important issue.
