As part of their chronic disease control strategy, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) encourages state health departments to use data and work with partners to develop comprehensive state plans to guide program efforts. New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has received a grant from CDC to create a State Oral Health Plan for New York and the plan has now been completed with input from a large number of individuals and organizations in the state with an interest in oral health.
The plan will be a step towards helping NY achieve the goals of Healthy People 2010 (HP2010):
- Increase quality and years of healthy life
- Eliminate health disparities
- Promote oral health
and to help the state meet specific HP2010 goals. The plan will also take into account the strategies and objectives outlined in the Surgeon General's Report on Oral Health and the Surgeon General's Call to Action.
Now that the plan is complete, however we have to move towards implementing it's strategies. Responsibility for this will lie with people all over the state, and coordinated by a statewide oral health coalition and regional coalitions.
